The Run to the Rescue 5k is a 3.1 mile race held at American Legion Post 20, located at 806 Calhoun Avenue in Greenwood SC. The event will be held May 20, 2017 at 8 a.m. Post-race refreshments will be provided.
How did the Run to the Rescue 5k begin?
In June 2014, a small group of Greenwood citizens conceived the idea of organizing a 5k race to benefit the Humane Society of Greenwood. The idea was presented to the Board of the HSOG in July 2014 and received overwhelming positive response. The Run to the Rescue 5k exceeded expectation in its first year with 125 people registering to race and 35 volunteers helping along the way. The race raised a total of $4035.47 for the Humane Society of Greenwood.

The Run to the Rescue 5k is operated under the endorsement of the Humane Society of Greenwood, with primary sources of funding obtained from corporate sponsors and revenue from runner registrations. The Run to the Rescue 5k receives no governmental funds.

The Run to the Rescue 5k offers in-kind sponsorship opportunities to companies that have the capacity to meet our specific needs. The benefits given to an in-kind sponsor are based on the monetary value of the donated items or services. All in-kind sponsors will receive a Federal tax receipt, and they will have the opportunity to place items in the Doggie Bags.
